INTER COUNTY MATCH WEEK at Woodbury Park 5th July2019

It was the final day of the Inter County Match week at Woodbury Park Golf Club. Cornwall played old rivals Devon to decide 3rd and 4th place. Cornwall were 2-1 up after the foursomes with Danielle and Megan winning 5&4, Wendy and Kira won 3&2 and Jan and Cath lost 6&4. The afternoon singles saw Megan lose 1 Down, Danielle win 4&2, Olivia win 3&1, Annie halved, Kira lost 5&4 and Laura halved. Overall the match was a win for Cornwall 5-4 and this secured 3rd place over the week. In other matches Wiltshire 6.5-Dorset 2.5 Gloucestershire and Somerset halved their match so the winner of Match Week was decided on games won and Gloucestershire having won 31.5 to Somerset 27, Gloucestershire go forward to the England Golf Finals at Delamere Forest Golf Club in September. Well played all the Cornwall players and thanks to the caddies and supporters.

Cornwall played Somerset on the 4th day. The foursomes were very close with all three matches going down the 18th unfortunately Somerset took all the matches. Danielle and Megan lost 1down, Wendy & Olivia and Jan & Cath all losing 2 down. In the afternoon singles Megan won 4&3, Danielle lost 3&2, Olivia lost 3&2, Kira won 1up, Caroline lost 4&2 and Laura won 2&1. Overall it was a win for Somerset 6 Cornwall 3. In other matches Gloucestershire 7.5 Dorset 1.5 Devon 5 Wiltshire 4 On Friday Gloucestershire and Somerset will play each other to determine which County will go forward to the National Final

Cornwall took on Gloucestershire today. It was a tough day at the office for the team. In the Foursomes Gloucestershire won all three matches with Danielle & Megan and Wendy & Olivia losing 4&2. Cath and Jan lost 2 down. It was all to play for in the afternoon singles but unfortunately it also went Gloucestershire’s way with them winning 5 of the 6 singles. Megan , Danielle, Laura , Cath and Jan all losing but Olivia won her match 2&1. The overall result was a win for Gloucestershire by 8-1. In the other matches Somerset 5 Wiltshire 4 and Devon 5.5 Dorset 3.5 Cornwall play Somerset in Thursday’s match. Good luck Team Cornwall

A super start with the foursomes matches. Cornwall won all the matches to take a 3-0 lead in the morning against Wiltshire. Danielle and Megan won 2&1, Cath and Jan won 1up, Wendy and Olivia won 2up. In the afternoon singles there was a halved match for Megan, Danielle won 3&1, Laura won 5&4, Caroline and Victoria both lost 4&2 and Olivia won 5&3. Overall it was a win for Cornwall by 6.5-2.5 games. Well played everyone.

On the 1st day of Match Week Cornwall played Dorset. The team got off to a good start going 2.5-0.5 up in the Foursomes with a win for Emily and Danielle 1up and also for Cath and Jan 5&4 and a halved match for Wendy and Megan. The afternoon singles was closer with a loss for Danielle 3&2, a win for Olivia 4&3, a halved match for Laura, a win for Caroline 2up, a loss for Victoria 3&2 and a loss for Megan 5&4. Overall it was a 5-4 win for Cornwall getting off to a great start to the week. In other matches Gloucestershire beat Wiltshire 6-3 and Somerset beat Devon 6.5-2.5

AUSTRALIAN SPOONS REGIONAL FINAL at Launceston Golf Club 1st July 2019

The skies were overcast but it was very pleasant conditions for golf and 40 pairs from the South West 6 counties played to find a representative to go to Woodhall Spa Golf Club on the 15th August to take part in the Australian Spoons final against the other 5 regional finalists. In 1st place with 37 points was Sarah Ross and Pam Wevill from Launceston. In 2nd place with 35 points was Sue Carveth and Liz Gillman from Perranporth. In 3rd place with 32 points on countback was Wendy Phillips and Pam Hughes from St Mellion In 4th place also with 32 points and on countback was Michelle Burgess and Candy Gil from Henbury. 21 Clubs entered teams of four players in the Inter Club Handicap Shield. The format is 18 holes medal, 3 scores to count and any ties decided on the 4th players card. The Andrews Bowl is awarded for the best gross score of the day. The weather was fine and the CSS was 74. The Shield was won by St Austell Golf Club team of Marion Sutton, Mandi Jago, Caryl Gould and Gill Dinnis with an aggregate score of 229. In 2nd place was West Cornwall with 240. In 3rd place was Newquay with 242. On Monday teams of 3 pairs from 20 Clubs competed in the 36 hole medal competition for the Baron Rose  Bowl and the Baron Rose Bowl team trophy at The Point at Polzeath. The weather in other parts of Cornwall was horrendous, but it was breezy with blue skies and sunshine for the competitors.  The scores were mixed but the winners of the trophy, Collette Burgess and Mandy Congdon from Bude had two steady rounds with a total of 142.  Runners up Sarah Shobrook and Olivia Trewhela from Perranporth, were 6 shots behind with a total of 148 one shot ahead of 3rd place  Mo Hammond and Carmel Connors from Falmouth  on 149. The team trophy for the total of the  3 team scores was won by the Perranporth team of Vicky Lee Comyn, Mandy Wright, Nikki Hodge, Anna Sendall, Sarah Shobrook and Olivia Trewhela with a total of 460

Bright but cool conditions for the CLCGA Silver Spring meeting held at Falmouth. There were 42 Ladies playing from 12 clubs. The CSS was 76. In 1st place winning the Scratch Cup with a gross 85 was Vicky Lee Comyn (Perranporth) In 2nd place with a gross 87 on countback was Cath Hopkins (Launceston) In 3rd place also with a gross 87 was Annie Lobb (Newquay) In 4th place with a gross 88 was Dawn Emmerson (Tehidy Park) In 1st place Handicap with a net 69 was Jean Anne Evers (St Austell) In 2nd place Handicap with a net 74 was Sarah Ockwell ( Launceston) In 3rd place Handicap with a net 75 was Carol Mitcham (Falmouth) In 4th place Handicap with a net 79 was Carol Waights (St Enodoc) There were no Two’s so cards were drawn out with each receiving 6 balls.Everyone enjoyed a very good meal after

62 Ladies played in the Spring Division 2 meeting at Tehidy Park Golf Club. A cold and overcast start to the day turning all blue skies and sunshine by lunchtime. The CSS was 76.
