CLCGA AGM 2020

Circumstances dictate that we have a different type of AGM this year. Below you will find reports from officers and AGM minutes from 2019 and Agenda for 2020 AGM. These will also be sent to your delegates for distribution to the members. A google form will be sent to the delegates for distribution so that you are able to vote for election of officers, changes to conditions of play and honorarium for the President. The Gammon draw will be made by a zoom meeting and the draw will be sent to the clubs and posted on the website. A.G.M. 2020 Update

A.G.M. 2020 Update

Following a committee meeting on Monday we are pleased to announce the arrangements for our forthcoming AGM. It was decided that the most inclusive way of conducting the meeting would be by email.  During the week starting 9th November, CLCGA Secretary Jenny Potter will email the meeting agenda and details of how to vote, to all delegates. Delegates will then be asked to forward this information to all the lady members of their club. All the officers’ reports and any other information will be emailed out subsequently. All paperwork will also be posted on the CLCGA website. We realise that this is not a perfect solution but felt that it was the best option available to us at this difficult time. We hope it will enable as many of our members as possible to participate. Any items to be included on the agenda should be sent to Jenny Potter by

In line with the CLCGA decision to cancel all our fixtures for 2020 we have also decided to cancel the SWFoursomes at Perranporth in October. I had received very few entries to date so the refunds will be made asap. Hopefully normal services will resumed in 2021.

CLCGA Competitions 2020

CLCGA Competitions 2020

It is with heavy hearts that your committee have decided to cancel all remaining CLCGA events this year. This includes The Gammon Trophy, all League Matches, Vice Presidents Cup, Flag Day, the Bronze and Silver Autumn Meetings, the Jubilee and the League Finals. There are so many factors to take into account in making this decision. Clubhouses are reopening but have significantly reduced capacity, so meals and presentations are not feasible for the time being. Changing room and toilet facilities would be difficult to manage for potentially large numbers of visiting players. Restrictions on sharing cars means travelling to events together would not be allowed. From the point of view of the Golf Clubs who have had such a difficult time, we feel it would be unfair to ask for course time when we would not be using the clubhouse. We also have to consider the safety of the members of the committee who would be meeting and greeting players and processing cards. This is not the

Update from County Captain

Update from County Captain

Today the County Team should have been at Dudsbury GC in Dorset for the beginning of the South West Inter-Counties Matches. This year was to have been a new shortened format with the matches condensed into 2 1/2 days rather than 5. We would have been aiming to build on last year’s third place finish. However, as this event has been cancelled, along with match weeks in all the other regions, England Golf decided to open National Finals to any county which wished to send a team to a 5 day event in Lincolnshire in September. After consultation with the squad, Cornwall decided not to participate in this event. Instead we will look forward to next year’s SW Inter- Counties at Bristol and Clifton GC.In the meantime I know some clubs are starting to play competitions again, others maybe not yet, but I hope most of you are managing to get back

CLCGA Competitions Cancelled Until July 27th

CLCGA Competitions Cancelled Until July 27th

Following the announcement by England Golf that they have extended their initial blackout of events until 27th July, we have regretfully had to cancel both the Baron Rose Bowl due to be played at St Enodoc on 10th June and the Inter Club Handicap Shield due to be played at Launceston on 17th June. The Gammon Trophy, which is scheduled to start within this blackout period, will be reviewed in the coming weeks to see if it might be possible to reschedule the matches for later in the season. Of course we don’t know at this stage if there will be any season at all, and if there is, if we could feasibly condense four rounds of the Gammon Trophy into the time available to us. In the meantime the first two rounds, due to take place on 7th June and 12th July will not take place on those dates. I hope you are all staying safe and for those

CLCGA Spring Meetings Cancelled

CLCGA Spring Meetings Cancelled

Further to our cancellation of the County Mixed and County Championship, England Golf have advised postponement of all County and Regional events until at least 7th June. In addition to this they have now directed all Golf Courses to close until further notice. Therefore our two Spring Meetings, the Bronze at Merlin and Silver at Perranporth are added the list of cancellations. To be clear, we considered postponement rather than cancellation of County Champs, but felt that due to ongoing uncertainty as to when events may take place again, and the logistical challenge of finding a course who could host us for four days at short notice, postponement was not a realistic option. Believe me the decision was taken after a great deal of deliberation by your committee who have worked incredibly hard setting these events up and now are working hard again to ‘undo’ them.  If any players who have entered these competitions could email Mo Hammond their bank

Message from the County President and the CVLCGA President

Message from the County President and the CVLCGA President

I would like to say how sorry I am at the rapidly changing events today.  These are unprecedented times and we must all take the greatest care of ourselves and our loved ones. I would like to thank Vicki, Jenny, Jacquie, Mo and Wendy for all the difficult decisions they have had to make over coming events, and the subsequent work the cancellations involve. The same applies to the Vets Section – Jean, Joyce, Liz, Gill and Kathy have all been involved in lengthy discussions and as disappointing as it is, I think they have all been the right decisions. Obviously no-one knows how long this is going on.  All I can say is please stay safe and do stay in touch with each other – friends at this time particularly are most important. Thank you Jill Simmons

Coronavirus Update re Championships and League

Coronavirus Update re Championships and League

With regret the CLCGA Committee have taken the decision to cancel this year’s County Championship which was due to take place at West Cornwall GC on 16th – 19th April. Once again the decision has not been taken lightly but in view of the current crisis over Coronavirus facing us all, and the latest government advice on avoiding social contact and unnecessary travelling we felt that cancellation was our only course of action. We apologise for any disappointment this may cause. Refunds will be processed as soon as possible. In addition to this we are taking the decision to suspend league matches at the present time with the hope of reinstating them later in the season if possible. Vicki Stevenson County Captain
